SITE NEWS - 2004

[04.28.04] » OK, it turns out I'd only ever come close to finishing one Winamp skin, though I had a couple half-finished starts. But I posted the only one I did finish, Vib-Amp. Even it is rather incomplete: I only skinned the main window, and not the playlist and equalizer, nor any of the other windows that have been added in the past four years. I thought about finishing those windows before I posted it, but I didn't feel doing so right now, and since I wasn't sure I'd ever feel like bothering it, I decided to post it as-is. After all, I can always update it in the future if I can change my mind!

I also rearranged the "Look" page a bit to accodomate the skin(s).

[04.27.04] » It's Terrible Fanfiction Day on the Marsh: I've re-uploaded all the missing episodes of the The PaRappa Files and put my very first fanfic, Of Mice and Demons, online. I would strongly caution you not to read either of them.

I'd say I was again running thin on content to archive, but I remembered this afternoon that I've done a couple Winamp skins that I completely forgot to consider posting. If I can scrounge those up, I'll add them.

[04.26.04] » I've reposted the three GIA For Kids features: the RPG and Survival Horror Preview Generators plus the Video Game Ineptitude Test. A big thanks to AV for finding me the scripts and Jay for getting said scripts running on this server.

I think this more or less completes the archives of my GIA stuff; there's not much I left out that would make sense to archive. (There's not much reason to collect a ton of previews and news stories.) I guess I could add the write-ups I did for the Worst Box Art and Most Useless RPG Character competitions.

[04.25.04 #2] » Look upon my boredom, ye mighty, and despair: I had nothing to do yesterday, so I went through and HTMLed the entire archive of Cait Sith's Mailbag from Cosmo Canyon. I actually don't think they're all that dumb, especially considering that I was cranking them out on a daily basis. (Though, admittedly, some parts are certainly dated or overly self-referential.) I don't know if anyone really cares about this, but it's there if you want it! More GIA features will go up tomorrow.

[04.25.04] » Well, don't I feel stupid. I just found out that I never actually uploaded the chapters of "The PaRappa Files" when I thought I had; they've been broken links for a week. Meanwhile, I already deleted my HTMLed versions from my hard drive because I thought they'd been posted, which means I'll have to recopy them from the Cosmo Canyon layout. No one seems to have cared about the missing chapters (and rightly so!), but I still feel pretty dumb. I'll get to re-HTMLing them and putting them up eventually, but I have some more worthwhile updates planned for the next couple days.

[04.24.04] » Feeling somewhat crummy for the week = no updates! Well, that and the fact that I've kind of run out of stuff to post!

By request, I've posted the Dictionary of RPG Clichés. I thought about posting it earlier, but I figured that with the Grand List of Console Role Playing Game Clichés nobody would want to bother with mine! But if people would like to see my Dictionary again, I'm happy to post it. Since the aforementiond link is a lot more comprehensive and funny than mine, though, I'm not going to keep updating my version - Heaven knows the Web doesn't need two of them.

Speaking of old features, I have to say that I'm pretty happy that nobody has e-mailed yet about updating or correcting any of the pages I marked as "archive only." Thanks for being understanding about that - I really don't want to end up to chained to constantly updating a site again, and I appreciate everyone respecting that. Or maybe the reason I haven't any gotten flames is just because no one is even reading this site. Who knows!

[04.18.04] » Well, I manage to scrounge up at least one more piece of old content: the drinking game from my GIA retrospective on Parasite Eve.

[04.17.04] » Apparently, I secretly enjoy embarassing myself on the Web, because I'm posted two more cringe-inducing old features: ToeJam & Barret from Cosmo Canyon and The Adventures of Larissa & Kelvin from GIA. World, you have no idea how sorry I am. (Oh, look, it's another flippant, self-depreciating ramble about how awful the content on my site is! Awesome!)

I'm really scraping the bottom of the barrel now, which tells me that if I want to keep this site updated, it's time to get off my butt and write something new instead of digging for quick updates from old sites.

[04.16.04] » They make me cringe, but I've added the write-ups I did for the GIA's yearly Staff Favorites to the GIA Columns page. I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize to the rest of the GIA staff as well as the site's entire readership for being such an unprofessional hack. I didn't mean to, honest.

[04.15.04] » Only a small update since I actually had homework, but at least I'm keeping at this every day. Anyway, I opened up a GIA Features section, which right now just includes System War 2001 and the "The Name Game" story/puzzle. Unfortunately, most of my other features used CGI scripts that I can't easily snag off the GIA mirror or the Wayback Machine, so it might be a while before I have anything to add to this section.

[04.14.04] » I took a break from pillaging the Cosmo Canyon archives to pillage the GIA archives instead. Thanks to the Wayback Machine and Erin, I've archived all my GIA reviews and letters columns on the site. I realize that these probably aren't of any interest to most people - and the reviews are just plain terrible - but I'm using this page to try to archive all the work I've posted on the Web.

I think that my GIA features - the preview generators and such - are probably of more lasting appeal, but it's going to be tougher to get those back. A lot of them require scripts that aren't saved by any kind of mirror or archive. I'm working on it, though.

[04.13.04] » The PaRappa Files are a lot lamer than I had remembered them being, but A) I'd already HTMLed it and B) The logo is awesome, so I went ahead and posted them.

Apologies if this flurry of updates is overwhelming. I can't imagine many people would be checking this page every day, so it's easy to miss the updates that get scrolled off the front page. If you're just joining us, I've mostly been reposting content from my old sites (Cosmo Canyon and Qu's Marsh I), seeing as how that's a lot easier than coming up with anything new! (Now I can see why there are so many GBA ports!) Probably the only really new thing of interest is my large drama fic, Love & Peace. It's not really new, either - I wrote back in 2002 - but I'd never posted it publically before.

[04.12.04] » Beath of Flamth hath been pothted in the Athorted Humor thection.

[04.11.04 #2] » I somehow managed to completely forget up to this point that I had the entirety of Cosmo Canyon archived on this computer. But with its rediscovery, I was able to finishing getting both Guardian Amulet stories back online and I also fixed some of the broken illustrations in other stories. (There's still a couple missing images, including one in GA 2, that I still have to hunt for.)

Now that I have the Cosmo Canyon archives at my daily disposal, I can easily add a lot of other old content. I'll at least post the PaRappa Files and Beath of Flams; if you've got any other requests, let me know and I'll see what I can do (though I can't make any guarantees.)

[04.11.04] » In honor of posting Love & Peace, which a lot of people seem to be pretty happy about, I added a couple of old promotional images for my fanfics to the Graphic Hacks gallery. These are pretty silly but I'm just trying to round out the archives with everything that belongs on the site!

[04.10.04] » I decided to go ahead and post Love and Peace. Fortunately, I'm enough removed from it now not to be so worried about whether or not people will read and like it, so please don't feel obligated to do so just to make me happy! But if you actually like the story, that's cool! It's hard for me to say whether or not it's something that will appeal to other people, but we'll see.

[04.09.04] » Posted Rikku's Story, a short, non-comedy piece I wrote recently. I've done several of these introspective, less formal pieces; I'll have to look over the others and see which are worth HTMLing and posting.

What I really ought to do, though, is HTML and post the huge fic I wrote in 2002, Love & Peace. I never posted publically when I finished it, because it was pretty personal - it's mostly drama / angst, though not with a reasonable helping of comic relief - and I wasn't sure if I was comfortable with a general audience reading it. But I'm feeling a lot more confident with my life now and am more than happy to share. Besides, a year and a half, the pressure's off; I won't be shattered if people don't like it.

New content will be on the way eventually, I promise. I do have quite a few ideas for new comedies in mind; the issue is buckling down and actually writing them!

[04.08.04 #2] » Hooray! Thanks to my host Jay and the Wayback Machine, I have a copy of American AIBO 1 again! Hooray! I've already posted it.

Unfortunately, the Wayback Machine didn't have my old background tile archive, but no big deal - the fanfics are a lot more important!

[04.08.04] » Domino: The Untold Story has been reposted. The still two Guardian Amulet stories aren't up yet but will be once I snag some missing graphics from my old computer. American AIBO may take a bit longer - I have to find a copy of the story first! (If anyone happens to saved a copy to their hard drive, I'd really appreciate if it could you mail it to me!)

Speaking of missing files, I'm still trying to find the nice tiled swamp background I had used on the first Qu's Marsh site. I can't find it on either this computer or my old one (which I was using when I made the original site). I put up a new background image that is somewhat better than the placeholder I had up earlier this week, but I'd still like to get that original image back. I'll keep looking for it.

[04.05.04] » I can't believe it; I'm following through with this site! OK, it's not a big update, but I've added a few more old graphic hacks - mostly the Nich's Hat series - to the graphic hacks gallery.

[04.04.04] » After a hiatus of several years, Qu's Marsh is back online as Qu's Marsh Remix. Why Qu's Marsh Remix? Well, I've got most of the content from the Qu's Marsh, but I'm planning to run the site a little differently this time - so it's a remix! Mainly, I don't intend for the site to be updated daily or even weekly; I don't think I have enough ideas for that. Rather, the plan is for this site to serve more as a storehouse for my collected writing. Since many of my works aren't online anywhere now, and the rest are scattered all over the Web, I wanted a place where I could keep it all to more easily show people.

Right now, I mostly have old content online. However, I hope that having an audience (however small) and a better place to put my works will give me more of an incentive to work on and finish stuff. At the very least, I have quite a few fanfic ideas that I should put into action. I'll also be adding some more of my old work from GIA, Cosmo Canyon, and the original Qu's Marsh.

I apologize in advance for the fact that currently half the content on the site is me complaining about the other half sucking. (But, hey, I guess it works for JP.) I just couldn't help but think that it was a little lame to launch a site with mostly stuff that I did years ago! Once I get some new things up, I'm sure I'll feel that the site is a bit more representative of my actual work.
