Credits Top 10 Questions --------------------- 1. What is the correct order to look at the paintings in Neclord's castle? A. 3 2 4 1. See the walkthrough for more information. 2. How do I bring back Gremio? A. You must have all 107 other characters before the final battle. Then Leknaat will appear and revive him. 3. How do I save Pahn? A. He should be in the mid-30s for level and have his weapon upgraded farily high. During the duel with Teo, have Pahn defend over and over, unless Teo says something along the lines of "Strike me, Pahn!" Save your game before you fight him. If you beat Teo with Pahn, you can keep Pahn. 4. How do I get Yuber? A. You don't. That rumor has been proven false. 5. How do I go up the stairs in the Great Forest item shop? A. I don't believe that you can. 6. What are the Binoculars for? A. Once you have them, you can control the battle perspective with a second controller. Press Circle to rotate the camera clockwise, Square to rotate it counterclockwise, Triangle to zoom in, and X to zoom out. 7. How do I get Mace to join me? A. You must put the four blacksmiths in your party to go talk to him. Note that once you get to the final battle, you are stuck with Viktor and Flik in your party, so you must do this before then. 8. How do I get Clive? A. Just go in and out of the inn in Rikon until he appears. You do not need the Binoculars to find him. 9. Where is Crowley? A. He is in a secret passage in the caves under Qlon. See the walkthrough for more details. 10. Who is Black Eyes, and where do I get him? A. Black Eyes is Kuromimi. The Beginning --------------------- You start in Gregminster, in the castle. Talk to your father Teo (the guy standing right next to you), then go in and meet with the Emperor. Agree to help him, then go down the stairs (on the right). Talk to Commander Kraze and then Teo again. In town, talk to everyone at your house and then go upstairs. Ted will "join" the party. Go to your room and let Ted join (very briefly). Talk to everyone and sit down. The next day, Gremio will join. Go downstairs and Cleo and Pahn will as well. When you leave the house, Ted will also join. Explore the town and talk to people. At the item / armor store, buy Leather Coats for Young Master (the main character) and Pahn. Then go to the castle. Talk to Kraze and he will assign you to go to Magician's Island and talk to Leknaat the Seer. He will then ask you where the island is (to the northeast). Leave the castle and go right, to the stables. Talk to Futch, the guy with the dragon, and he will take you to Magician's Island. Go north through the first screen. You will fight FurFurs and Holly Boys. At this point, all you can do is regular attacks, which is sufficient to kill them. On the second screen, open the chest for 6 doses of Medicine. If you get low on HP, use it (each character has a has a six-pack as well). Continue until you reach a fork in the road. Take the right fork for a Leather Coat (give it to Cleo), then continue on the other fork. You'll meet Luc, who will turn into a Golem and attack. Just use regular attacks, and have Gremio and Pahn use their Unite attack. If you need healing (unlikely), have Cleo use a Medicine. After the fight, Luc will tell you to follow him to Leknaat's palace. Enter and go up all the stairs. Talk to Leknaat and she will give you the Astral Conclusions and a Fire Crystal. Luc will then warp you back to Futch. Return to Gregminster and give the Astral Conclusions to Kraze. Kraze will give you your next assignment and send Kanaan with you. Return to town, stay at the inn (it's free) and save your game. Go to the Runemaster's shop and have the Fire Rune bound to Cleo. Buy any equipment you want and go east to Rockland. If you get any antiques, take them to an Appraiser and have them appraised (it costs 500 bits) for big bucks (at least most of the time). In Rockland, go to the big house at the top of the village and talk to Grady. He will send you to Mt. Seifu in the east to clear out the bandits. In the lower-right hand corner of town, you'll find Marco, with whom you can play a cup game. You can get infinite money here. Save your game, then play the cup game. If you lose, just reset. If you win, quit and then talk to Marco again. The coin will be under the cup where it ended up the last time. Then quit again, and keep playing. You'll win every time. Once you have the money, start betting 10,000. Head to Mt. Seifu. Enter the cave and go straight up for Boots and Medicine. Go through the cave to the left and take the path in the lower-left for an antique. Then take the far left path for money, then take the third path for a Defense Rune Piece. recommend using it on Young Master. Take the second path up to the next level. Get the Medicine and Escape Talisman to the left and the Leggings to the right, then follow the path to the boss. You can't win here, so don't bother trying. Just attack until the battle stops. Ted will then use his Soul Eater rune to wipe out the Queen Ant. Heal any characters that are hurt (Medicine CAN be used to bring back dead guys, but not in fights), then continue to a Thunder Rune Piece. Later, you can attach this to a weapon. Have Young Master, Gremio, or Cleo carry it. Go south and back outside. Save your game at the save spot and contine up the mountain. You'll meet Varkas and Sydonia, who will send six Bandits after you. Kill off the purple one first while Cleo and Ted shoot the archers in the back. You'll then fight Varkas and Sydonia. Use your Unite attack and Cleo's magic (if she has the Firestorm spell, it will damage both at once). Have Young Master heal with Medicine if you get hurt. After the battle, you will warp back down to the base of the mountain. Return to Rockland. Fight the Imperial soldiers if you want, then report to Grady. He will pay you 10,000 bits, which Kanaan will keep. Strip Ted and Pahn of all their items, then return to Gregminster. Kanaan will leave to report to Kraze. Get your antique appraised and sell it, then return home. Go to the front door and you'll find Ted lying on the ground. Ted will explain what happened. Talk to Pahn and he'll leave to get medicine (or so he says). Ted will give you the Soul Eater rune. Kraze will show up, having been told of what happened by Pahn. Ted sacrifices himself while you escape. Go to the inn and talk to Marie. She will hide you in the top room. Talk to Gremio and Cleo and go down the stairs (you will have to try twice to get down). Try to leave the inn and some Imperial soldiers will appear. Viktor will appear and bail you out. Follow him and talk to him again. He will join to help you escape. Put him in the front row and move Cleo to the back. Go to the exit (not the palace, as Viktor says) and Viktor will get you out. He will ask you to meet someone in Lenankamp. Liberation --------------------- Head south to Lenankamp. Viktor will leave to go make "arrangements." Explore the town and get your Thunder Rune Piece attached at the blacksmith. You can also upgrade your weapons there, as well. After you're done, go to the Keyaki Inn and spend the night. Some Imperial soldiers will appear, but Odessa will appear from a hidden passage behind the clock and save you. Viktor will introduce you to the Liberation Army. Try to leave and you'll meet a wounded messenger from the Mt. Seifu bandits. The Liberation Army will recruit you to rescue Varkas and Sydonia from Grady. Viktor will rejoin to help you out. Put him in the front again and get him some better armor. Then return to Rockland. If you need money, Marco's still there; you can play the cup game. Otherwise, go to Grady's house. Viktor will set fire to the house and then you can go in. Head left and go in the first room for Medicine. Follow the passage to a corridor leading down. Go through the first door on the right (it's hard to see) for Brass Armor. Skip the door on the left, but go in the next door on the right for an antique. Be sure to get it appraised. Continue down the hallway and go through the last door on the right for 1700 bits. Then go left to a large battle. Attack the soldiers one at a time and have Cleo cast Firestorm if she has it. Otherwise, have her shoot at the two soldiers with bows. After killing the archers, kill the Empire Captain. Then go outside and rescue Varkas and Sydonia. Return to the Liberation Army hideout in Lenankamp. Odessa will join your party to take the blueprints for the fire spear to Sarady. Leave town and head northwest to a bridge. Cross and continue northwest (mostly north) to the entrance to Mt. Tigerwolf. Get the Circlet (give it to Odessa) and head east. Follow the path and pick up Medicine and Gloves. Cross the bridge and go up both sets of stairs. Go left first for a Wind Rune Piece. Have somebody besides Odessa carry it. Circle around the cliff and go up the stairs, then cross the bridge. Enter Ledon's inn and drink his tea. The tea will poison the party, but then Ledon's boss Kessler will come in and save the party. The next day, talk to Kessler, then head north. Get the Antique and continue to a chest with Medicine. Take the small path to the right of the stairs for a Clone Crystal. Later (at a Runemaster's), give it to Viktor. Then go up the stairs, get the money, and continue to the exit. In Sarady, you might want to get the Water Crystal for sale at the item shop if you have the money (from gambling with Marco). Then go to the inn. Talk to Odessa and Kage will show up to get the blueprints. Go back through Mt. Tigerwolf to Lenankamp. Get your Clone Rune bound and the Wind Rune Piece attached. Hand over or sell all of Odessa's stuff and go to the Keyaki Inn. Go down into the hideout. Kill all the soldiers and talk to Odessa. She will give you an earring to take to Mathiu in Seika before she dies. Young Master will now be able to cast the Deadly Fingertips spell. Outcasts --------------------- Go south to Kwaba Fortress. Before leaving, you might want to go to Rockland one last time to make some more money gambling. At Kwaba, you can pick a phony name. It doesn't matter which one you pick. Viktor will get you through past Ain Gide. Then continue on to Seika. Talk to the guy standing in front of the house on the hill, then visit the house. Go back to the guy (it's Mathiu) and follow him to the house. Leave and some Imperial soldiers will show up. Chase them to Mathiu's house and beat them up. Afterwards, Mathiu will agree to help you and suggest using the castle on Lake Toran as a headquarters. Leave Seika and follow the coastline to Kaku. If you get attacked by a large group of Flying Squirrels, use Firestorm (you should have it by now). In Kaku, go to the tavern and talk to Camille the debt collector. She will agree to come with you to Koran Castle to get her money. Switch her and Cleo in the party. Save your game, then talk to Tai Ho in the basement. Tai Ho will want to play a dice game. If you lose (it's just luck), just try again (or load up). Despite what Tai Ho says, you're only betting 1000 bits. After you win, talk to Tai Ho outside to go to Toran Castle. Tai Ho then joins your party. Put him between Young Master and Gremio. Go back to Kaku to buy Tai Ho and Camille some better armor. You might also want to sharpen Tai Ho's weapon once. If you have any extra crystals / runes, give them to one of the new characters (back at Seika). Then go to the castle. Go right and get the Mega Medicine (an improved version of Medicine, but it only comes in 4-packs) on the top ledge, then enter the cave. The Clone Rune (which I recommend on Viktor) is useful in small fights, but you will be unbalanced (unable to move) on the next turn. Save your magic (except for Deadly Fingertips, which will kill any non-boss enemy instantly) for the boss. Inside the cave, head right and go down around the lower-left corner of the pit into the vertical passage. Open the chest for Toe Shoes. Then go back around the pit and keep going right. Get the chest, go up the stairs, and continue right. Go down for a Power Rune Piece (give to Viktor or Young Master). Go down the stairs in the upper-right hand section of the room to get a Pointed Hat, then exit in the lower-right. Follow the path to a save spot. Go up the stairs and enter the next cave. In the second room, walk into the wall right at the entrance to the room, then go right, down, and left to a chest with a Hazy Rune. In the upper- right, walk through the wall for a Wind Crystal. Then continue down into the castle. Heal up and descend to the basement, where you'll encounter the Zombie Dragon. The Zombie Dragon is the hardest (well, okay, the ONLY hard boss) in the game. Viktor should use his Clone Rune and heal with Medicine on the turns when he is unbalanced. Young Master, Tai Ho, and Gremio should just attack. Gremio should also heal if it's necessary. Camille should attack or use Medicine. Cleo should use all her magic, then heal. If one of your characters dies, the next character in the line-up will move up to the front row. After defeating the dragon, the fog will clear. You can now name the castle (I called mine Bob). Leknaat will appear and give you Luc and the Stone Tablet. Yam Koo will also join. Talk to Mathiu and he will tell you to find Lepant in Kouan. Gremio, Viktor, and Cleo are automatically in your party. You can also take two others. I recommend Camille and Tai Ho, but it's up to you. Before you head to Kouan, you need to recruit some more characters. Sail back to Kaku and go to the tavern to recruit Sergei, who will install a very handy elevator. At Seika, you can recruit Marie at the inn. She'll open an inn at the castle. Also recruit Onil at one of the houses. Go back up to Kwaba and talk to Chandler. He'll open an item store where he sells any item you've found for sale at another store. Journey southwest from Kaku to Kouan. There, you can buy strong but expensive new armor and have your antiques appraised. Talk to Giovanni the butler at Lepant's house, then go to the inn and talk to Krin. Go outside and talk to him again. Climb up the rope and enter Lepant's house. Cross the beam, get the Shoulder Pads in the chest, and exit in the lower-right. Climb down the ladder and continue south. Talk to Rock and recruit him. He'll open a storage vault at your castle. Open the two chests and exit on the far right. Walk under the first two robots, head up slightly, and walk right under the next robot to the chest. Then walk up and left around the top of the robots to the door. Get the chest and go down the stairs. You will have to fight difficult Robot Soldiers, so make use of Cleo's magic. Open all the chests. One of them has White Paint; give this to Young Master and have him hang on to it (later, back at the castle, store in Rock's storage vault). Talk to Juppo and he will join up. Then go in the lower-left room. Heal up and stand on the wheel. You will probably wind up getting Medicine or fighting robots. Keep trying until you end up on the other side of the wheel. If you can stop yourself (using the X button) on the ? mark, you will get Dragon Seal Incense or a Rune Piece. Once on the other side, get Kirinji, then retrace your steps and leave. Back at the inn, Lepant will show up and demand Kirinji back. Tell him that Mathiu sent you and give him his sword back. Giovanni will appear and tell Lepant that Eileen has been taken to the new commander's house. Save the game and follow Lepant. In the commander's house, go to the lower-left room for a Water Rune Piece, then talk to Lepant. You will have to dump one of your party members to make room for him. After the fight, put Lepant in the front row so he can fight. Go upstairs and enter the room on the left for an antique, then go in the room on the right. Beat up the soldiers and Pahn will show up. You can choose to kill Kraze or not; it doesn't matter. Pahn, Giovanni, Krin (for some odd reason) Lepant, and Eileen will all join. The Burning Mirror (or Kobolds and Elves and Dwarves, oh my!) --------------------- Return to headquarters, where Varkas and Sydonia will join. During the banquet, an assassin will attack. You shouldn't have any trouble with him. The next day, head out to the front of the castle, where you will meet Kirkis the elf. He will request your help in saving the elves from the Imperial general Kwanda Rosman. Put Juppo in your party and go to Kaku. Talk to Meg and she will join up. Then go southwest to the fortress of Garan, where Kai, Young Master's old teacher, will join. You won't be able to cross the bridge yet, however. Now that you're rolling in characters, be sure to swap between them to get them all up. Go southeast from Kouan to the Great Forest. Recruit Sansuke and Maas here, and buy some Mega Medicine at the item shop. There are stairs in the item shop that you can't get up. I don't believe that there is any way to get up there. Head to the upper-right of the village and go into the forest. While crossing the first bridge, Viki will appear and join. Back at the castle, she can teleport you to anywhere you've visited before (even dungeons!) Go straight right to a chest with a Gauntlet, then go down the steps and go right again for an Escape Talisman. Follow the path across the second bridge, grabbing Rune Pieces, until you come to the Kobold Village. Pass through and continue south to the ingeniously-named Elf Village. Save your game and buy some Feathers at the armor shop. Talk to the chief and you will be thrown in jail. Talk to Valeria and Stallion and walk up to the bars on the right. Sylvina will break you out. Valeria will join the party when you leave (you have to drop somebody else). Go to the Dwarf Trail to the northeast. On the second screen, walk behind the first large tree for a Feather. If you have trouble here, you probably need better armor. Kill off any Eagle Men you encounter first (use Valeria's Falcon Rune). On the third screen, walk behind the biggest tree on the right for a Karate Uniform. Take the left fork for a cool Sacrificial Buddha, then take the right fork. Get the Killer Crystal behind the trees, then go up the left ladder for a Guard Robe. Ascend the mountain on the right ladder. Get the first two chests and climb the stairs. Cross the bridge and follow the path to the overworld. Head up to the Dwarf Village (love the music!) Talk to the chief and he will demand that you break into the vault and retrieve the Running Water Root to show that humans could have stolen the Burning Mirror blueprints. In the blacksmith's, you can recruit Meese, who is a better blacksmith than Maas. Also, the blacksmith here can raise your weapons up to level 9. More importantly, however, try to buy all of the great armor available. You may have to leave town and fight enemies to get enough money. Leave town and go north to the Dwarf Vault. Descend all the stairs to a room with three levers. Flip the middle and right levers to get to a chest with a Sunbeam Crystal. Then flip the middle lever back and hit the one on the left. Walk to the exit. Go down some more stairs to a maze room. Go up at the first turn and left for Medicine (whoopdy-doo). Then go straight right and follow the path to a Magic Robe. Go back to the first intersection and go right. Get the Blue Ribbon and go down some more stairs. Step on the platform on the far right and ride it down to a ledge. Ride the platform to the left, then the one below you to get to a Thunder Rune Piece. Ride the two platforms back to the first ledge and take the bottom platform to the exit. Downstairs, get a useless Pointed Hat, then take the right path for a Skill Rune Piece. Follow the left path to a room with two buttons. Press the buttons in this order: LRRLLLRR. Go through the door and take the two side paths for chests, then head up and go down the steps. Ignore the stairs to the right and go south. Take the narrow path to the left of the stairs for an Escape Talisman. Skip the stairs on the right and go down the ones in the middle to face the boss, Gigantes. Magic does not hurt him, so use regular attacks. If you have Eileen or someone else with an Earth Rune along, use the Copper Flesh spell on the folks in the front row to make them temporarily invincible (if necessary). Valeria's Falcon Rune is very effective on him. You shouldn't have too much trouble if you upgraded your equipment at Dwarf Village. Get the Running Water Root and Defense Rune Piece (in the left fork), then use an Escape Talisman. Back in town, take the Root to the chief and he'll agree to make you a Firewind Cannon. Head back across the Dwarf Trail, where you'll see Elf Village in flames. Return to the burnt village and save your game, then leave and come back in again. Talk to Templeton and she will give you a world map and join. Return to the Great Forest. Kuromimi the kobold will join your party to fight a group of Elite Soldiers. Use magic to wipe them out. The survivors of the old Liberation Army will arrive and you will be have your first big battle at Pannu Yakuta. Use on of your Thieves to see the enemies' plan, then respond accordingly. Against Bows, use Charge; against Charge, use Magic; against Magic, use Bows. If you don't know the enemies' plan or run out of thieves, use Mathiu (Strategist) to boost your Charge power and go with that. If you get low on forces, try Chandler (Merchant) to buy out some of the enemy troops. Presuming you win, the Dwarves will knock out the Burning Mirror with their cannon and you will enter Pannu Yakuta with a set party of Young Master, Gremio, Viktor, Valeria, Kirkis, and Kuromimi. Put Viktor, Valeria, and Kuromimi in the front, followed by Young Master and Gremio, with Kirkis the rear. Take the left door for a Steel Shield (good for Kuromimi) and go up the stairs. Go inside the castle and go in the upper- left room for Medicine (oh joy), then go in the upper-right room for the important Old Book Vol. 1. Have Young Master carry it and store it in Rock's vault as soon as possible. Go out the lower- right door and pop down the steps to a healing room. Go out into the courtyard of the castle and through the main door. Go through the upper of the two doors on the left (the areas where the wall next to white part looks different are acutally doors) for a chest, then go through the lower door on the right for another one. Go up both flights of stairs to the throne room. You will have to fight a Dragon. Young Master, Kuromimi, and Gremio should all attack. Valeria should use the Falcon Rune. Viktor should use his Clone Rune and heal on his off turns. If Kirkis has magic (the Water Rune works well on him), use it, otherwise, have him hit. It may take a while, but you won't have any trouble. Heal up Young Master and go out onto the roof, where you will have your first one-on-one duel with Kwanda Rosman. The fight shouldn't be too hard. When Kwanda says something like "Here I come!" or "This is my strongest attack," he's going to use a Desperate Attack, so Defend. When he says "Try and hit me" or such, he's going to Defend, so use a regular Attack. If you can't tell what he's going to do, just Attack. After the fight, Kwanda will be freed from Windy's spell. Spare him and he'll join you. Sylvina and Stallion will also join. Return to your castle. Scarleticia --------------------- Go to Mathiu's room on the third floor (the castle should be expanded by now). Viktor will be talking to Flik. Flik will run off to Kaku. Talk to Marie and she should say she needs a cook. Put together a party with Kuromimi and Lepant in it and sail over to Kaku (or use Viki's teleportation in the basement). Talk to Flik in the lower-left house and he'll agree to side with you. Save your game and go to the basement of the inn. If you can win 5000 bits from Gaspar, he'll join you. Since it's all luck, I can't give any advice other than to bet in small amounts. Go down to Kouan and recruit Lorelai at the inn. You should be at a high enough level for her to join. If not, come back later. Warp or walk to Seika and go to the inn. Talk to Sheena and he will join if you have Lepant along. Antonio will also join if Marie said she needed a cook. Go to Mathiu's school and recruit Apple. Trek through the Great Forest to the now-functional Kobold Village (unfortuantely, you can't warp here). Go to the inn and recruit Fu Su Lu the tiger for 10,000 bits -- a low price for such a great character. Also go to the bottom house to recruit Gon, Kuromimi's brother (only if you have Kuromimi along). Then head back to the castle. Talk to Flik and you will head out to Garan for your second army battle. You have a numerical advantage, so you should win without trouble. Just use the same strategy as before. Afterwards, you will move on to Milich's castle Scarleticia, where you will be routed by his poisonous flowers. Dump two members (it doesn't matter, as you'll have a completely mandatory party soon) to make room for Flik and Gremio. If you leave Garan and come back in, you'll find Quincy, but he won't join yet, as you don't have enough characters. Head west to Teien. First, go to the inn and recruit Hellion. She will give you the Blinking Mirror, which allows you to warp back to your castle. With the Mirror and Viki, you can go anywhere easily. Have Young Master carry the Mirror, because he is always in the party. DO NOT HAVE GREMIO CARRY IT. Also, buy the Yellow Flower Seeds and Yellow Paint and store them in the vault. You'll also find Eikei in town, who will only join when you're at Level 40 or higher. Be sure to come back to get him. Head northwest to the Northen Checkpoint (just to put it on your teleport list), then go back down southwest to Antei. If you don't have Toe Shoes equipped, go to the armor store and buy some, then equip them on Young Master. Go to the inn, dance with Mina, and she will join. Upstairs, you'll also find Esmeralda, who will join if you give her an Opal (you'll have to come back later). In the armor store, you can recruit Chapman, who runs an armor store similar to Chandler's (he sells any armor you've found for sale somewhere else). At the Runemaster shop, you can recruit Jeane if you're at a high enough level (or maybe it's number of characters; I'm not sure). If not, you'll have to come back later. You can get good armor here as well; be sure to visit the shop to add its ware to Chapman's list. From Antei, go west to the Scarleticia to add it to your warp list, then go northwest to the Dragon's Den for the same reason. Head south to Lorimar (warp list), then head east, adding Soniere Prison to the list and finally arriving at your last destination, Rikon. To get Jabba the Appraiser to join you, you'll have to fight Holly Fairies until you receive a Nameless Urn. Take it to Jabba and he'll join. Upstairs in the inn, you'll find Lotte, who will join if you catch her cat (in Kaku). This is difficult. Equip somebody with a Holy Rune (Stallion already has one) and use the Circle button to run. Try to hit the X button as you bump into the cat to catch it. Once you have it, take it Lotte and she'll join. Go to Rikon and get the boat. Sail towards the dot at the very bottom of your map. You will be stopped by rapids. Return to Rikon and Viktor will say you need a more powerful boat. Go to Teien and talk to Gen in the left of the two houses at the top. He will join the party. Go talk to Kamandol in the house to the right and he will join as well. Get the engine and go to Rikon. After Gen and Kamandol install it, get on the boat and sail past the rapids to Liukan's hermitage. When you talk to Liukan, Milich will appear and take Liukan away to Soniere Prison. Get the Black Paint in Liukan's house and then go back to the castle. Talk to Mathiu and he will give you a letter to take to Kimberly in Antei. Warp there and give her the letter. She will join. Talk to Tesla in town and he will join up as well. Go back to headqaurters and talk to Mathiu again. You will get forged orders allowing you entrance into Soniere. Warp to Soniere and enter. If Gremio has a good Rune or something else you want to keep, give it to somebody else. Inside, go right for a Silver Necklace and a save spot. The Nightmares you encounter here are fairly tough. Use Gen and Kamandol's Fatal Attack to fight them. Sometimes they will drop Opals, which you need to recruit Esmeralda in Antei. Head west and south. Get Old Book Volume 6, which Young Master should carry and deposit in the vault later. Pull the lever and go through the big door. Go down all the stairs until you come to a gate guarded by soldiers. Beat up the soldiers with the Fatal Attack (easy), then fight through another gate. Break into the two jail cells for a Half Helmet and Sound Setting 0. Have Young Master carry the Sound Setting and deposit it in the vault for later use. While we're on the subject of the vault, you can recharge any item with multiple uses (such as Medicine or Mega Medicine) by storing it and then just withdrawing it. Free Liukan and return to the top floor. If you haven't obtained an Opal yet, fight until you get one. Strip Gremio of all his items and leave the prison. On the way out, Milich will appear and release man-eating spores. Gremio will sacrifice himself to let you escape. Don't worry; you can get him back [much] later in the game. Young Master now learns the Black Shadow spell. Back at the castle, go to the war room and talk to Mathiu. You will be taken to Scarleticia Castle for another army vs. army battle. Fight this as before. You will then have to make up a party to send into the castle. Be sure to include Pahn. You will want to get his level up to the mid 30s before you finish the dungeon. Also, go to the blacksmith in Teien to boost his weapon level to 12, and be sure he has all the best armor. At Scarleticia, go in the left door and get the Red Paint. Look at the picture of Milich on the wall (above the red chest of drawers) and choose the response "Milich, too, is a victim." A set of stairs will appear. Go down for Window Setting 1 and a Magic Rune Piece. Get the Magic Robe on the right-hand side, then go up the big stairs. Head left, get the Spark Crystal, and go out the door. Milich will show up. Spare him (you don't even get to fight a boss) and he'll join. Stallion will then appear and you will be sent back to the castle. Teo --------------------- First off, SAVE YOUR GAME. Then go to the War Room and talk to Kasumi the ninja. You will then have to fight Teo's army. The Liberation forces will be slaughtered by the armored cavalry; you can't win. Pahn will then fight General Teo. This is a tough fight, but you have to win if you want to keep Pahn. Just keep defending unless Teo says something like "Strike me, Pahn!" Hopefully, he will use lots of desperate attacks and you can rip him when he whiffs. If you lose, Pahn dies, so keep trying until you beat him. Back at the castle, go to your room. Leknaat will appear and tell you about the 27 True Runes. Then go talk to Flik. He will suggest getting the fire spears from the secret factory in the north. Put Tai Ho and Yam Koo in your party and go talk to Gen. He'll give you his new boat. Take it to the Pirates' Fortress (northwest of HQ) and talk to Anji. Choose to fight him. Young Master should use Black Shadow, then attack. If Tai Ho and Yam Koo are weak, have them use the Fishermen Attack. Otherwise, have them hit. Use any spells that damage multiple enemies. Once you take out Anji, you shouldn't have any trouble. The pirates will then join up. Go back to headquarters and put Milich in your party. Warp to Scarleticia and recruit Ivanov and Kasios. Also take the Opal to Esmeralda in Antei. Talk to Qlon at the front of Antei and he will join as well. If you haven't yet recruited Jabba, fight Holly Fairies to get a Nameless Urn (this takes a while). Sail past the maelstrom in the northwest region of Lake Toran and land in Kirov. Go to the inn and talk to Georges. If you can beat his record on the matching game, he'll join. Whenever two cards cards match, all the cards next to them are turned up. Any of those that match disappear as well. It's sort of a cross between Concentration and Minesweeper. Play it at the lowest number of matches (i.e., different pictures) to make it easiest. Start in the center and try not to isolate any cards. It will take many tries and a lot of luck. Talk to Sarah and she will ask you to find her soap. Talk to the guy in the upper-right corner of town and he will agree to trade soap for soy sauce. Talk to the guy in the left of town. He will give you soy sauce for salt. Talk to the woman in the lower- right, who wants a yardstick. Go to the inn and the guy on the right will want sugar for a yardstick. Buy some sugar in the item shop, then trade all the items in reverse order. Give the soap to Sarah and she will join. Go to the two empty houses in the center of town and taste the stews. Then go to Kun To's house -- the big one -- and Lester will join. You can also find Melodye here, but you need the Sound Crystal to recruit him. Now go north to the ruins of Kalekka. In Kalekka, you'll find Leon Silverberg (Mathiu and Odessa's father) in the first house, but he can't be recruited until you have 100 or so people. Go into the ex-item shop for an Earth Rune Piece, then enter the tavern. The last living resident (well, one of the three) of the town is here. Talk to him, then get Old Book Volume 8 and leave via the left door. Go in the two houses for chests, then talk to Blackman without stepping on his crops to recruit him. Leave Kalekka and continue north to the Secret Factory. Kessler and Ledon will join when you arrive. Go inside and hire Kage for 20,000 bits. Then talk to Mose. He will give you the fire spears. Get Window Setting 0 from the chest and use the Blinking Mirror to warp back to the castle. Warp to Kirov and give the Sound Crystal to Melodye, then go talk to Kun To at his house. Kun To, Mose, and Ronnie Bell will all join. Back at headquarters, give all your Sound Settings to Melodye. Talk to Mathiu and give the order to move out. At the big battle, use your Strategists to boost the power of your charge, then use nothing but charge attacks. If you get low on soldiers, use a Merchant to buy out some enemy forces. After the big fight, you'll have to fight Teo one-on-one in the last duel (yup, there's only three in the whole game). Win as you did before. Teo will die, but send Alen and Grenseal to to join you. Young Master will also gain the ability to cast the incredibly powerful Hell spell. Neclord --------------------- Go talk to Lepant and head out for Lorimar. The fortress is deserted. Viktor and Cleo will join and you can pick three others. Put the three blacksmiths (Maas, Meese, Mose) in your party for now. Then go south to the Warrior's Village. Go to the upper-right house and recruit Moose. He'll join if you have Maas, Meese, and Mose in your party. Go back through Lorimar, recruting Kirke on the way. Put some better characters in your party and go back to Warrior's Village. In the village, you can recruit Marco by winning 5000 bits from her (all at once, unfortunately). Later, you can recruit Window as well. Go to the upper-left house and talk to Zorak. The next day, Neclord will show up. Fight him (you can't win) and he will take Tengaar and leave. Go west to Qlon (no relation to the little kid of the same name). Talk to Fukien and he will join, then open the path to the Cave of the Past. Don't go in; instead, leave and come back into Qlon. Recruit Morgan and Zen (you must have all three Flower Seeds). By now, you should have enough people to recruit Quincy at Garan. Also, if Kirkis is at level 40+, take him to the Kobold Village and talk to Rubi at the inn. He will join up. In the Cave of the Past, there is a save point to the right, but you don't really need it. Head up and go down the steps. Take the stairs in the lower-left for a Crimson Cape, then go back down and take the upper-right passage to a Flowing Crystal (a better Water Rune). Take the lower-right passage on the second floor. Walk through the wall below you to a chest with the Window Crystal, which you need to recruit Window in the Warriors' Village. Get the Head Gear and go through the cave in the upper-right for another Old Book (vol. 2). Then go through the cave in the lower-right, get the money chest, and head up the ramp to the stairs. Head south. If you walk through the wall, you'll find Crowley, but he won't join yet, as you don't have enough characters. Go right and take the upper fork for the important War Scroll. Then follow the lower fork around in a circle, stopping at the cave entrance for a Silverlet. Go down the stairs. Stop at the first cave for a Skill Rune Piece, then go in the second one and go downstairs to the Star / Black Dragon Sword. The sword will warp you into the past. Talk to a much younger Ted and the village chief will call him. Follow him to the house on the right. Windy will come and demand Soul Eater. The chief will send you out through an escape path. First, go back through the secret passage in the wall and get the chest in the middle house for a very useful Champion's Crystal (eliminates wimpy enemies). Then follow the path until you encounter Yuber the Black Knight. Back in the chief's house, go through the path again to get a Boar Crystal. Then enter the temple to return to the present. Get the Black Dragon Sword and use an Escape Talisman. Before leaving Qlon, take the War Scroll to Hugo and he will join you. Don't miss Old Book vol. 3 in the bookcases behind him. Give the Window Crystal to Window in the Warriors' Village and he will join up. Go back to the castle and deliver all your Old Books to Hugo (if for no other reason than to see the incredible page-turning animation). Also give Window your Window Settings. Then go to the Warriors' Village. Talk to Zorak and he and the warriors will leave for Neclord's Castle. Warp (or walk) there. Hix will show up and want to join, so you will have to dump a character to make room for him. Then enter the castle. Fukien is very useful here, because his spells rip the undead. If you fight any Hell Unicorns, kill them before they can use their devastating attack on you. Make liberal use of the Hell spell, since you can't use it on the boss (Neclord) anyway. The left door has a save spot; the right one has a chest (and a zombie, but don't pay him anything). Then go up through the main door and follow the path outside the castle and back in. Go up the stairs and get the chests in the nearby rooms. Go left for Sound Setting 1, then go up to the room with four paintings on the right. The correct order to look at the paintings is: 3 2 4 1. Since this seems to be confusing people, I will elaborate. The four paintings are named (from left to right): "King of the Night," "Girl in the Early Afternoon," "Chestnut Tree," and "Peasant Girl." Now, back in town (or by paying the zombie), there is a guy who says somebody returned from Neclord's castle saying "Even in the forest (3rd painting), even in the night (2nd painting), do your work (4th painting), praise the King (1st painting)." After examining the paintings in the right order, the door will open. Follow the path outside and back in. Go in the lower- right room for Earth Boots, then the lower-left one for Green Paint. Cross through the coffin room and go up the steps. Circle around for an Earth Rune Piece, then go through the door in the upper-right, cross the balcony, and come back in. Get the chests in the two rooms. Heal up, and go up the stairs to fight Neclord. Have everybody defend the first round except for Viktor, who should attack. After Viktor hits him, you will be able to hurt him. Viktor and Hix should hit. Young Master should cast Black Shadow. Cleo should use her best spell. Your other two characters should do whatever they're best at (I recommend Rubi [with Flowing Rune] and Ronnie Bell -- use the Hate Rune). Group healing spells are invaluable here. You might also want to cast an Earth spell to increase your defense, especially on the lead character. Neclord takes a while to beat, but he isn't terribly difficult. Viktor will kill Neclord and you will rescue Tengaar. You now have to walk all the way back out. Before you leave, transfer all of Viktor's items to somebody else. Outside the castle, he will leave to go back to his village, but Tengaar will join. Dragon's Den --------------------- Before you return to the castle, it's time to collect a few characters. Go to Rikon and into the inn. Keep coming in and out of town until you see a guy in a black cloak standing in the corner. It's Clive. Talk to him and he will join. Then go to Neclord's Castle and hike back up through it. At the very top, you'll find Pesmerga, who will join. While you're here, go between the stairs at the stained glass windows at the bottom of the room and poke around for a chest with a Rage Rune. You should also be able to recruit Crowley in the Qlon caves now. Back at the castle, Sanchez will suggest seeing the Knights of the Dragon's Den. Humphrey and Flik will join to go with you. Be sure to fill up your party with three more characters, then make a side trip to Kalekka. Talk to Leon Silverberg and he should say something about talking to Mathiu. Go to Mathiu and he will give you a letter. Take the letter to Leon and he will join. Then go to the Dragon's Den. Talk to the guard, then go to Antei. Talk to Vincent de Boule and he will leave for the Dragon's Den. Follow him there and enter the cave. Just follow the path, picking up chests along the way. Be sure to get Old Book Vol. 5. Watch out for the Sunshine Kings. Just use a Hell spell on them. Since this is a short dungeon, you won't run out. On the second floor, go right for a chest, then go left and keep going until you come to the dragon cave, where you will meet up with Futch again (from way back at the beginning of the game). Continue on the path to the exit, then head up to the Dragon Knights' Fortress. Walk up the right side of the fortress and talk to Fuma (his head is barely visible behind the wall). He will join. Inside, talk to Kreutz and he will also join up. Go upstairs and Joshua will explain the situation. Get Window Setting 2 in the chest and check the bookcases for Old Book Vol. 4. Then go back to the castle and put Liukan in your party. Warp back to the fortress and talk to Joshua again. Liukan will diagnose the dragons as having been poisoned and send you to Seek Valley to get moonlight weed. Milia will join the party. Go to the fortress and get on Thrash to fly to Seek Valley. Get the Master Robe, one of the strongest armor types in the game, and go south. Climb up the stairs and take the left path for a chest with Sound Setting 2. Then take the middle path (the right path leads to Mace, whom you don't have to worry about right now). At the next fork, go right for Mega Medicine, then head left to the boss. Use regular attacks at first. After you knock out all the crystals, the sphere will disappear, revealing the core. Then use your strongest magic. If you have two characters with Level 4 MPs, use the level 4 spells simultaneously to do a magic combo. Save your healing magic for when you really need it. The Crystal Core goes last, so you can get in a heal before it rips you. After the fight, get the Cyclone Rune (a better Wind Rune), save your game, and go north. Get the Gold Necklace on the left and continue up to the Moonlight Weed. Windy and Ted will appear. Refuse to fork over Soul Eater. After the events, it will become Level 4, allowing you to cast the Judgment spell, which is really not as good as Hell (except on bosses). Leave and return to the Dragon Knights' Fortress. Talk to Joshua and he will tell you that Futch went to the gardens in Gregminster to get the second ingredient. You will then be playing as Futch. Go down and pick the large plant on the right. Barbarosa will show up, but let you go. Return to Black and Windy will shoot you down. Back at the fortress, Liukan will prepare the medicine. Futch will then join. Accept a ride home on Thrash or just warp back. Moravia --------------------- At the castle, go up to the fourth floor and talk to Mathiu and the newcomer Taggart. Taggart will explain the situation up north. After the dialogue, put the four blacksmiths (Maas, Meese, Mose, and Moose) in your party and go back to the Dragon Knights' Fortress. Get a ride to Seek Valley on Thrash and then go back to the three-way fork. Take the right path until you come to a cabin, where you can recruit Mace, the best blacksmith in the game. Back at the castle, talk to Mathiu, then go to your room. Mathiu will come in and tell you there is a spy in the Liberation Army. The next day, talk to Mathiu again and head out for the Manuevers Site. You will make a sudden attack on the Northern Checkpoint. The Imperial forces are hopelessly outnumbered, so you won't have any trouble. After the fight, you will be forced to take Kasumi and Krin (aaargh!) to Moravia Castle. You will fight large groups of enemies here, so be sure to take some characters with spells that can hit everybody. Griffith will pretend he has captured Mathiu to get you in (don't worry about the chest in the Northern Checkpoint; you can get it later). At the castle, there is Pink Paint in a chest at the start and a save / heal spot in the upper- right. Unless you've been using Krin (ha), you might want to just fight enemies in the first room, using the healing guy, to get Krin up some levels. Go west and get the Taikioku Wear, great armor. Follow the straight-forward path up to the second floor, then go outside through the narrow slot in the wall. Go back in the next door and go up to the third floor. Outside again, Krin will use a rope to get you across the gap. Walk up the white roof to the left and enter the window. Continue to the prison (yes, that's the WHOLE dungeon). Warren and Viktor will join up and you will confront Kasim Hazil. Kasim will join you (gee, I wasn't expecting that). Outside, go back into the castle (you may want to come back later once you've trashed Krin) and return to the prison. Rescue Vincent de Boule and he will join. Also get the Mother Earth Rune here. Instead of warping back to the castle, go through the Northern Checkpoint first. Maximilian and Sancho will join you. Also get Old Book Vol. 7 here. Shasazarade --------------------- Back at the castle, give all the paints to Ivanov and he will finish his mural and give you the Binoculars. The Binoculars can be used to control the battle camera with a second controller. Push Cirlce to rotate the camera clockwise, Square to rotate counter-clockwise, Triangle to zoom in, and X to zoom out. Go to the war room and talk to Mathiu. You will prepare to attack Shasazarade. Go to your room and Viktor will give you Gremio's axe. It doesn't serve any purpose (other than to use as a weapon when you get Gremio back -- more on that soon). The next day, head down to the beach and Gen will show you his 500 boats. Choose to attack Shasazarade (unless you have something you need to do). This is a big battle, but you have 3 Ninjas and 3 Thieves, so you shouldn't have too much trouble. Don't forget about your Dragon Knights. After the battle, save the game, put together a party, and enter Shasazarade. Make sure you have a good stock of healing items and spells before entering. Conserve spells (except Hell) inside, and use items to heal out of fights. Inside, just follow the no-brainer path, collecting the three chests. When you reach a T, go left for Mega Medicine, then heal up and go down to fight the Shell Venus. Use strong attacks on it, but don't use your strongest spells (like Judgment). Heal with Mega Medicines whenever possible. Lightning spells (Ball of Lightning in particular) are very effective. After the fight, get the Thunder Crystal and shut down the floodgate. Go back to the entrance, but heal up before you reach it. Sonya will appear and the fortress will catch fire. You will then fight Sonya (this is why you didn't use all your spells on the Shell Venus). Use Judgment and all your magic combos. Her magic can rip you, so stay healed up. After you win, Viktor will take Sonya with you. Go up to the surface and Sanchez will be revealed as an Imperial spy. You will then return to the castle. Final Battle --------------------- Go to the basement and Sonya will be in the prison cell (it finally gets some use). Talk to her and (wait for it) she will join the party (SURPRISE!!!). You should now have all 107 characters (everybody but Gremio). Save your game, and from now on save in a separate slot in case you have to come back here. Go to the fourth floor and talk to Mathiu. Leknaat will appear and bring Gremio back to life. You will then go to the Last Battle (the last big battle, that is). This battle is really no different than Shasazarade. When you don't know what the enemy is going to do, use your Merchants and Dragon Knights. You shouldn't have any trouble. You will then go to Gregminster, where you will be stuck with Viktor and Flik in your party. The store (yes, it's open) sells the best armor in the game (except for the stuff you can randomly win in battles). Head to the bridge and fight Ain Gide (from Kwaba). Use your strongest spells on him. He has a good attack spell, but you shouldn't have any trouble with him. Go back and get healed, then continue on to the castle. Go into the lower-right room for Windspun Armor, then head up. You will fight some Imperial Guards. Continue up and left and go up the stairs. Go through the door in the upper-left of the throne room and go right to the stairs. It looks like you can keep going up, but you can't. Upstairs, keep going north, fighting the soldiers, until you get to a fork. Go left past still more guards (use Hell) and pop up the stairs. Go all the way right to claim a Horned Helmet, then go up the middle passage. Turn left for a save point, then head right and follow the long passage. Heal at the end, then go up to fight Barbarosa. Barbarosa will turn into a hydra. Attack the right head (the one on your left) first, as it can bring back the other heads. Use group attack spells. You might want to save one Judgment per head (if you have three). In this case, most magic combos aren't really as good as the individual spells, so be sure to have some characters attack so that you don't cast a combo. After you destroy the first head, take out on the one on your right, then the center. Use any defense-boosting Earth spells that you have. After the fight, Barbarosa jumps off the roof with Windy (you never even get to fight her). Incredibly, you have to walk out of the palace, fighting enemies (WHY???????). Just use any Hells you have left until Viktor and Flik leave. Then you get to watch the ending. If you have all 108 characters, you will get a different ending (barely). Characters --------------------- The Star names differ between the game and manual, I used the game's versions. Armor refers to the character's armor level: "Weak" characters can use armor levels 1 and 2. "Light" can use armor levels 1-3, but not anything named "____ Armor" (such as Brass Armor or Dragon Armor). "Medium" can use armor levels 2-4. "Heavy" can use armor levels 2-4, but for helmets, can use levels 4-5. "Very Heavy" can use armor levels 4-5. "Light/Heavy" are treated like Light characters for armor and Heavy characters for helmets. A * after the Armor means that the character can use shields.
