Perhaps This Enemy Will Be Entertaining the 14th Time I Fight It

by AshtonAnchorsFan@webtv.net

I'll be honest with you readers: the first thirteen times I fought the Arch Kobold, I wasn't terribly excited. Now, I'm not saying that this fourteenth battle won't be interesting; I'm just establishing my history fighting Arch Kobolds. You have to understand the laws of probability here, that just because something happens one way many times in a row doesn't mean that it has to continue happening that way. So the thirteen fairly mundane battles I've had against Arch Kobolds don't mean a thing as far as this battle is concerned.

In fact, this could be the most exciting RPG battle I've ever fought. Alina, my healer, only has about 65% of her maximum MP remaining. If this ends up being a long, protracted battle, she could completely run out of MP and wouldn't be able to heal that party -- that would sure be tense! And what if the Arch Kobold has some devastating special attack, maybe one that damaged the whole party and put them to sleep, that it only used occasionally? I'm thinking of something like those Pink Puff critters in Final Fantasy IV. They only showed up once in a blue moon, and dropped a Pink Tail even less. That's the thing about RPGs -- you just never know what's going to happen next!

Some people are so quick to jump to conclusions after just one fight against an Arch Kobold. But I've got much more of an open mind. I mean, if you don't even get pumped up for each and every battle, how can you claim to be truly role-playing? And I know that even if this fight doesn't turn out to be a lot more exciting than those thirteen previous Arch Kobold fights, I'll still be gaining value experience points that will come in handy when I go up against the boss, the Fire Elemental. Plus, I think Gwa-Gwa is pretty close to gaining another level, even though I don't use her much because she's so weak. So there's a lot of good things that can come out of this fight.

It looks like the pre-battle camera panning has finished -- the game just showed the close-up of Max, and I know that's the last shot. That means it's time to fight! I'm going to come out swinging this time around. I learned my lesson after that seventh Arch Kobold battle, where I wasted one of Stratheim's turns by defending. This time I'm going to hit the Arch Kobold with Lightning 2 and Earth Fist on the first round. That should crank the action level up a notch or two -- I can feel the adrenalin rush already.

Man, now I'm already starting to wonder what my fifteenth Arch Kobold fight might be like. I'd better start planning!
