Baseball Stars
proved that SNK knows baseball, but Touchdown Fever
demonstrates that they don't know diddly about
football. This game's got several major flaws...
the first is a limited selection of cryptic plays.
The second is a massive field that just never seems to
end. The third is a cast of squat characters who
look like they should be in a peewee
league. |

The Achilles' heel of most
side-scrolling beat 'em ups is that they quickly become
repetitive due to the simplicity of their
gameplay. That goes double for Toxic Crusaders,
which gives you just two attacks to use against the
forces of ecological evil. It's hard to stay
interested in a game as limited as this one, even if its
soundtrack is pretty catchy. |

Track & Field is a
pioneer in a genre that claimed the lives of more
controllers than any other. There are ten
different challenges in this game, and the majority of
them require you to pound the hell out of your joystick
to make your cartoon athlete run like the wind.
The frantic button smashing adds to the game's urgency
and really brings you into the action. |

Konami leaves the cartoony
look of Track & Field behind and brings an
unparalleled level of realism to its sequel. This
new approach has drastically improved the game
visually... the athletes in particular are enormous and
exquisitely detailed. On the other hand, some of
the events suffer from this emphasis on realism, being
needlessly complicated. |

This game, like that rusty
can of corn in the back of your cupboard, has long since
passed its expiration date. Treasure Master was
designed for a contest held in the early 1990's, but
considering its difficulty, it's doubtful that anyone
ever claimed the top prize. Anyway, this is an
unexceptional (and hard!) side-scroller with a large
world and tons of items to find. |

Acclaim brings the gameplay
of Pac-Man into the future... by taking it into the
distant past! That'll make a little more sense
when you play this port of the Midway arcade game
Trog. You're a dinosaur, chomping eggs and other
goodies while trying to slip past hungry one-eyed
cavemen. The game's a bit slow, but very funny...
you'll love all the character animations! |

Remember to use protection
while engaged in combat... always bring a shield to
every battle! You'll need it, too, because your
partners like it rough, throwing knives, dynamite, and
fireballs at you in the hopes of bringing you to your
knees (ooh, kinky!). That's the story of Trojan, a
linear side-scrolling beat 'em up with an equal emphasis
on offense and defense. |

It's true what they say...
strong fundamentals DO make up for an inability to
dunk! Twin Cobra won't blow anyone away with its
graphics or sound... the former lack detail and the
latter are just plain annoying. However, the
nail-bitingly intense shooting action of the Toaplan
arcade game is perfectly reproduced, with every weapon
and all the swarms of enemies intact. |
