You won't find a lot
of options in this early tennis game, but it's enjoyable
despite its simplicity. There's no option to play
against a human opponent- just with them in a doubles
match- and the referee tends to make some pretty
questionable calls. On the plus side, the control
is fast and responsive, and there's a simple but
attractive slanted view of the court. |

The Terminator follows the same path as far too many
movie-licensed games, taking a mediocre action title,
throwing in a few digitized pictures from the film, and
then calling it a day. Its ridiculous, cartoony
characters fail to capture the threatening atmosphere of
the movie, and its poor design and tired gameplay ensure
that you won't be back for more.
FAST FACT: Radical made amends for
terrible NES titles like this one by releasing a
surprisingly enjoyable Incredible Hulk game for the
Playstation 2. Years later, they would refine that
formula in Prototype, a free-roaming action game for the
Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. |

T2 closely follows
the storyline of the movie, theming each stage after a
key scene from the film. As the T-800, you'll do
everything from punch thugs in a seedy bar to outrun an
angry Mack truck in a cement canal. Unfortunately,
"faithful" is not the same as "fun". When the
game's not boring, it's frustrating, and when it's not
frustrating, well, you get the idea. |

Terra Cresta takes
your usual overhead shooter and adds one of the coolest
play mechanics in history... the ability to lock other
ships onto your own, creating a huge flying
fortress. In tight situations, you can double your
firepower by splitting the ships into a deadly
formation. Devious enemy patterns, tough boss
fights, and solid visuals make the game even more
thrilling. |

The classic puzzle
game comes to the NES... for the second time.
There was already a superior version of Tetris by
unlicensed developers Tengen, but slick legal
manuevering put an end to that game and opened the door
for Nintendo to create its own Tetris. Nintendo's
game offers the same block dropping action as Tengen's,
without the polished design or multiplayer
modes. |

Nintendo combines
the block dropping of Tetris with the color matching in
their less successful puzzle game Dr. Mario. The
result is a game that frustrates as much as it
entertains. The object of Tetris 2 is to destroy
colored "flash blocks" on the screen, but this process
is obfuscated by awkwardly shaped multicolored pieces
that are difficult to use effectively. |

Could a game based
on a slapstick comedy series from the 1940's possibly
work? The answer is yes... and no. The Three
Stooges does an admirable job of capturing the spirit of
the classic movie shorts, with a variety of mini-games
based on the Stooges' exploits. However, the
mini-games are awkward to play, and it's hard to select
the ones you want without getting
penalized. |

When gluttonous Mr.
Chin goes a fridge too far, he's sent to the thirty two
walls of regret as punishment for his lack of
self-control. To escape, he'll have to demolish
the walls with a ball and paddle in a game that's more
than a little like Arkanoid. Subtle gameplay
differences and a stunning, bass-heavy soundtrack make
this worth a look for Arkanoid
afficianados. |
