This is a pretty
lackluster conversion of the intense arcade game.
Instead of feeling like you're on a vitally important
rescue mission for the government, you feel like you're
standing in front of a cheap carnival shooting gallery,
with mindless targets wandering back and forth.
The game's actually better with a controller, but it
isn't fun no matter how you play it. |

It may look like
just another Breakout clone, but wait, there's
more! In Orb-3D, you control the altitude of the
ball, pulling it toward and away from the screen to hit
objects in its path. This adds to the challenge of
the game, but mostly, it just makes the gameplay
unnecessarily awkward. Lackluster visuals detract
from the game's already negligible
appeal. |

If you've played any
board games at all, you're probably already familiar
with this one. Players take turns dropping colored
pieces on a board. When one player sandwiches his
opponent's pieces with those of his own, the pieces in
the middle are flipped to his color. The NES
adaptation of Othello is pretty well done, although the
sound effects can be grating. |

You'll be amazed by
the game's slick interface... everything looks gorgeous,
from the swirling view of outer space to the items you
can purchase. However, the interface is as obtuse
as it is beautiful... you'll find it very frustrating
that you're given a half dozen options that you can't
actually select. Bring along an instruction
booklet for this one. |
