This feels more like
Hudson's Adventure Island with Mickey Mouse grafted onto
it than a game that's truly worthy of the classic Disney
character. You'll run through generic stages with
your main squeeze Minnie, firing stars at enemies lifted
from the film Fantasia while collecting items to boost
your health. In other words, it's a
paint-by-numbers NES title. |

The mouse is back,
and he's got big Mickey style, abandoning his classic
wardrobe for stylin' khaki shorts and oversized high
tops. While dressed in his fly early 1990's
threads, he'll have to find numbers for his friend
Donald Duck, running and jumping through different
stages in a game that emphasizes platforming action over
teaching kids to count. |

Mickey Mouse is on a
letter hunt in this well-designed educational
game. You'll run through a series of scenic
locations, catching letters with your net while jumping
over the enemies in your path (what few there are,
anyway). When Mickey collects all the words in
each stage, he shouts out each letter, helping kids make
the association between letters and
sounds. |

This role-playing
game with a first-person perspective makes a very strong
first impression, with remarkably smooth and detailed 3D
graphics. The gameplay is nearly as good as the
visuals, although there are a lot of options to wade
through while fighting enemies, and the 3D perspective
limits your view of the action and makes exploring each
level more difficult. |

Jack's on a mission
to defuse bombs scattered throughout an enormous
pyramid, but the inhabitants of this ancient tomb won't
make it easy for him. They'll transform from
shambling mummies to skulls and fireballs in the hopes
of snuffing out our high-flying hero. It's a
decent action game if you can get used to Jack's
extremely high jumps.
FAST
FACT: Mighty Bomb Jack is the sequel to
an obscure but very entertaining arcade game called Bomb
Jack... you'll see the single screen rounds from Bomb
Jack at the end of every stage in Mighty Bomb
Jack. Also, when the Bomb Jack arcade game was
released in 1984, Tecmo was known by a different name,
Tehkan. |

How do you bring the
massive characters and the incredible detail of Final
Fight to a system like the NES? You don't.
Instead, you parody the advanced arcade game,
transforming its muscular heroes into comical,
big-headed runts and including new moves and silly
dialogue to make up for the less impressive graphics and
sound. |

Mike Tyson's
Punch-Out!! is one of the most playable and outright fun
boxing games ever made. The control is fast,
crisp, and intuitive... Little Mac does exactly what you
want him to do, when you want it, unlike most boxing
titles which tend to be rather sluggish. Colorful
cartoon graphics and a high level of challenge make this
Nintendo classic even better. |

The enhanced sequel
to the arcade classic Centipede makes its appearance on
the NES. Hal Laboratories has done a pretty good
job with their conversion of this heartpounding
shooter. The game seems a touch slower than the
arcade original, and the control isn't as sharp without
a trackball, but the insects- especially the relentless
spiders!- still rain down on you in overwhelming
swarms. |
